Gregg was born with a talent as an artist as early as age three (The three covers are illustrations that he created for the books), and -- in high school art classes -- Gregg behaved as though he were an apprentice to the Man, "When I'd draw in high school, I 'd ask myself, 'Is this good enough for Walt Disney, were he standing behind me, watching?'' " "Certainly if there is something like imprinting -- among Graylag Geese ( that become affixed to the first human around when there's no mother goose, if a mother zebra can pick out her baby from a herd of unanimously similar stripes), then something about Walt imprinted an image on my soul,'" says Gregg, "and there's no other man -- not even my own biological father -- of whom I know so much as Walter Elias Disney." Volume One is your beginning, as it was Gregg's, to discover the biographical layers that made up Walt's life -- his struggles, his aspirations, his wild fantasies that came true -- and Volume One was that Fate that launched a thousand quips -- if you want a wonderful read about one of the giants of American Folklore, you can appreciate all that you will learn from the pragmatic and dogged steps that Walt took to begin the building of an empire that was not only real estate based but intellectually rich in properties as well. "It all began with a mouse," said Walt; "It all began with a role model," says Gregg --respectfully! |
